Earth scientists, of course, are big believers in The Big One. The EESA turnout for the Great Shakeout Earthquake Drill today was orderly and efficient. People ducked under desks, and eyed their surroundings, considering what could fall on them. The EESA people then gathered in the local emergency meeting spot, a parking lot nestled in a live oak grove, lit up with fog-filtered sunlight. The orange-vested safety team members present for today’s event were Building 74’s Pat Dobson (lead), Diana Swantek, Yingqi Zhang, Yuxin Wu, and Erika Gasperikova, and Building 84’s David Knowles (lead), Nic Spycher and Rosie Davis. Yingying Kooyman, Building Manager, and Vivi Fissekidou, EESA Safety Facilitator, also supervised activities. Thanks to them, in particular, for a smooth operation.
Next step for everyone: make sure there are emergency kits in our cars and at home to prepare us for the real Big One.
