Berkeley Lab’s Earth & Environmental Sciences Area has just released its strategic plan, EESA Strategic Vision 2025 —well-timed to the 47th Anniversary of Earth Month this April!
This strategic plan describes the collective vision of EESA’s scientists for the next decade, and outlines five ambitious Grand Challenges, and future goals for three Cross-Cutting Technologies & Platforms. These research objectives advance understanding of the interactions and feedbacks across an integrated Earth system, from atmosphere to ecosystems to deep subsurface. Their scale ranges from molecular to global, and will explore how small-scale interactions can affect entire systems, while large systemic factors influence small-scale behaviors. This plan will guide EESA researchers as they pursue scientific discoveries, and translate results into scalable solutions to sustain Earth’s environment and manage energy and water resources.
The EESA scientific community encompasses an impressively diverse array of capabilities, and a collaborative approach to earth and environmental science. In 2017, which marks EESA’s 40th year, this strategic plan will build upon both breadth and depth of this expertise, and leverage EESA’s creative and collaborative spirit to solve the most pressing energy and environmental challenges of our time.
