As noted in a late February 2014 TABL-Tech Transfer article, ESD scientists recently received Lab royalties for their work. Included among the royalty-award recipients (from prior year activities) at the LBNL-Tech Transfer annual royalties ceremony, in late February 2014, were Chris Doughty and Chin-Fu Tsang, for wellbore software to characterize groundwater contamination; Tsang again for his published work “Analysis of Flow and Transport in Fractured Rocks” (a chapter in the book Flow and Contaminant Transport in Fractured Rocks); and the many ESD scientists, past and present, behind the development of TOUGH software.
TOUGH developers honored include (in alphabetical order): Jens Birkholzer, Andrea Cortis, Joseph Doetsch, Christine Doughty, Stefan Finsterle, Teamrat Ghezzehei, Charles Haukwa, Jim Houseworth, Kazumasa Ito, Jeffrey Johnson, Jihoon Kim, Mike Kowalsky, H.H. Liu, Guoping Lu, Norm Miller, George Moridis, Sumit Mukhopadhyay, Haruko Murakami Wainright, Curt Oldenburg, Lehua Pan, George Pau, Karsten Pruess, Matt Reagan, Jonny Rutqvist, Yongkoo Seol, Chao Shan, Torquil Smith, Eric Sonnenthal, Nic Spycher, Carl Steefel, Stephen Webb, Yu-Shu Wu, Tianfu Xu, Guoxiang Zhang, Keni Zhang, Yingqi Zhang, LianGe Zheng, and Quanlin Zhou.
Don DePaolo, former ESD Director and current Associate Laboratory Director for Energy and Environmental Sciences, was one of the current associate lab directors who took turns at the ceremony highlighting licensed technologies, software, and published books from their respective disciplines.
