scientist in our division this month. Asma, a native of Libya and one
of the Emerging Leaders of the U.S. State Department’s TechWomen 2013
Program, is an environmental chemist with expertise in clay mineralogy.
She will be working in Jiamin Wan’s group within ESD’s Hydrogeology

TechWomen is a United States Department of State-funded program
initiated in 2011. Its goal is to empower women and girls in the Middle
East and North Africa through international exchanges. These exchanges
build on “smart power,” embracing the full range of diplomatic tools,
in this case technology, to bring people together for greater
understanding and to empower women and girls worldwide.
Welcome, Asma!
