Biography

Dr. Koven is an Earth System Scientist, working in the Climate Sciences Department. He investigates feedbacks between climate and the carbon cycle. He develops and uses numerical models of soil, vegetation, and atmospheric processes to understand how terrestrial ecosystems respond to climate change, and how these responses shift their balance of greenhouse gases such as CO2 and methane. Dr. Koven’s primary research focus is on high-latitude feedbacks to climate change, and in particular the role of soil carbon in permafrost soils, and its response to changing climate.
