Donald J. Herman manages a Soil Ecology lab at the University of California, Berkeley, and is a member of the AmeriFlux Tech Team at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. In his role at U.C. Berkeley, his research has predominantly involved soil nitrogen and carbon cycling, including emissions of radiatively active trace gases from soil, and stable isotope probing of soil microorganisms. His work includes designing, building, and deploying novel research equipment and facilities, such as the EPIC carbon isotope labeling facility at U.C. Berkeley, and long-term CO2 and CH4 monitoring equipment for the Department of Energy’s Atmospheric Radiation Measurement Facility.
