Nature-based solutions for climate mitigation, such as restoring wetlands, can help decrease atmospheric greenhouse gas (GHG) concentrations, slow climatic and environmental change (nature-based decarbonization solution) while providing additional ecosystem services to coastal communities. This project aims to (1) delineate the natural processes and management practices within wetlands that control C dynamics, and (2) integrate environmental justice considerations, policy, and governance approaches to develop a framework and guidelines for incorporating coastal wetland restoration/conservation into local, state, and national adaptation plans. LBNL researchers are significantly engaged in this project that is led out of UC Santa Cruz by Adina Paytan.
