The Earth and Environmental Sciences Area endeavors to promote, integrate, normalize, and operationalize Berkeley Lab’s vision of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accountability (IDEA) in all levels of our organization. We believe that engaging a diverse workforce in a culture of inclusion is key to advancing scientific excellence, research, development, and innovation.
The Earth and Environmental Sciences Area IDEA Committee, which advises Area leadership and coordinates cross-division activities and initiatives, is composed of representatives from each of the Area’s Divisions: Energy Geosciences and Climate and Ecosystem Sciences. The committee meets monthly, with individuals taking on action items and engaging additional EESA staff members as needed in ad-hoc working groups. Additionally, a group of EESA members participate in the nationwide URGE program (Unlearning Racism in Geoscience) as the EESA URGE pod.
